to be honest, can\'t really agree.
In 1st and 2nd year, all courses are generally open to many different students from different faculties, the class size is large, and the instructor has no control to the class at all. Most markings are done by the TA, you can only work very hard to achieve a good grade.
In 3rd and 4th year courses, especially in 4th year. The class is very small, the professors know you very well. If you have a good \"relationship\" with him/her, for example, has done research with your professor, present outstanding performance in class or project, express your interest in his/her field. It could be easy to get a high mark, because the professor controls everything. I remember I have a few courses I didn\'t really make the same amount of efforts as I did for some 2nd year course, but I got > A grade. Of course, you still need to do your homework.
For Chinese students, my suggestion is, never assume work experience is more important; as a student, your performance is your grade. Before you have real work experience, your grade is the only thing the employer looks at. An outstanding GPA is crucial, for applying co-op, intern, and job interview opportunities.
On the other hand, if you don\'t at least have an above-average mark, how can an employer trust you can do your work well. Since when \"employed\" as a student, you didn\'t even do your work well. Right? |
