The History of “Liquid Gold”
The source of our Geo-Thermal water that has made us world famous was accidentally found in 1910 when a deep well was bored in an effort to locate natural gas. Despite efforts between 1932 and 1971 to make use of its water, the original well was finally plugged in 1971.
In 1980, the City of Moose Jaw drilled a new geo-thermal well, which provides Temple Gardens Mineral Spa with its therapeutic mineral waters. Under its own pressure, the water travels through an insulated pipeline from the wellhead located approximately 0.8 kilometers (1/4 mile) away.
The porous formations into which the well is drilled are actually ancient seabeds. Geo-thermal heat conducted from much deeper molten mass of the earth's core continually warms the vast and virtually inexhaustible reservoirs of mineral water contained in these formations. The well head temperature is about 45°C (113°F) and the mineral water loses less than one degree as it passes through the insulated pipeline to the Spa.
The chemistry of this geo-thermal mineral water is similar to the water used at the famous mineral pools in Bath England. Its concentration is approximately 10,000 parts per million in total dissolved solids and it contains such compounds as Epsom Salts and Glauber's Salts. The water also has sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate, sulphate, boron, bromine, fluoride, silicon, and strontium as trace elements.
