Canada's real estate market has cooled off in the second half of 2008. According to figures released by the Canadian Real Estate Board, sales of existing homes in October dropped by 14 per cent across the country from September. That's the largest monthly decline since June 1994.
CREA says a third of the drop is due to reduced activity in Canada's biggest market, Toronto — although sales were down the other four biggest markets (Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton).
The map below includes the latest real estate statistics from across the country, including home sales, average prices, apartment rents and vacancy rates.

The Canadian Real Estate Association expects prices to keep on going up in Manitoba through 2009. Prices rose 12.6 per cent in 2007 and another 12.7 per cent in 2008. In 2009, that's expected to slip to a 6 per cent price gain. However, the number of units sold should drop by 4.3 per cent in 2009.
